DAPA has released a position statement regarding COVID-19 Vaccinations.

We believe vaccination of dental practitioners, dental assistants, receptionists, practice managers and students or trainees undertaking placement will assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19 to vulnerable patients and the general community and also protect the healthcare workers from contracting COVID-19 at work.

DAPA has confidence in the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), and we rely on their guidance about the safety of the COVID vaccine.

DAPA supports mandatory COVID-19 vaccination (using a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration) for healthcare workers, including dental assistants and trainees undertaking patient facing roles, as an appropriate public health and safety matter; and highlights the potential benefits of widespread vaccination in the community generally and specifically amongst healthcare workers who, because of their work, are at greater risk of contracting COVID-19

We strongly urge those members and staff who have concerns about vaccination to discuss these with their medical practioner and seek reliable advice through the links provided in the statement.
